Respite Care

“Respite Care is a Lifeline”

CHAT (children, health and therapy) was set up in June 2003 to support children living in Buckinghamshire who have ongoing health needs. CHAT funds grants for respite care.

Respite Care Grants

Families with children who have individual health needs are often on duty for 24 hours a day and need some time in order to re-charge their batteries.  CHAT offers grants to these families to fund short-term care in the child’s own home or  for an organised activity.

Read about some case histories and feedback from parents.

To apply for a grant and read our guidelines and terms please print an application form and return it to the CHAT office:  application-form-for-respite-care

On approval of the application the charity refers the family to a local home-care agency to deliver the care.  Depending on the child’s needs, the carer will often take the child on an outing to the park or other activity leaving the parents with some time to themselves or time with their other children.  Sometimes CHAT may fund a child at a specialist holiday club such as the scheme run by Bucks Play Association
