Respite Care
“Respite Care is a Lifeline”
Many families with children who have special needs struggle through life and long for a short break from their child to enable them to do the things that most people take for granted, including spending some quality time with their other children.
Respite Care Grants
Caring for a child with special needs can sometimes be exhausting or impossible.
If you live in Buckinghamshire, CHAT can provide a grant to enable you to access help with your child. This will enable you to take a break from your caring role and to have quality time with other family members.

Our Guidelines & Terms and Privacy Notice can be found here.
We provide ‘Self-Find Grants‘. As the name suggests, parents need to appoint their own suitably qualified carer. If you require help with finding a carer please contact us for further information. Alternatively, if there is an activity your child would enjoy you can nominate an activity provider.
Previously families have used their grants to fund childminders, specialist holiday and after-school clubs, time at animal therapy farms, drumming lessons, kickboxing, gym, coding clubs and martial arts sessions.
You must find a potential carer or activity provider before you apply for a grant. If you have already found a possible provider please click on the application form link on this page to complete the online form. If you would prefer a paper copy of the form please contact us.
Carers and activity providers will need to confirm they are suitably qualified, have liability insurance and DBS checks. Grants cannot be provided to family members.
Our grants are variable, currently the average is around £300. They are paid to the service provider and never paid to the family. You may only apply for one grant per year.
